The Rozkoš water reservoir is one of the top birding places in the Czech Republic with the highest count of species observed overall.
VN Rozkoš (Vodní Nádrž Rozkoš ) is great for a visit any time of the year. Best period is mainly during the spring and winter migrations when a lot of birds get attracted to rest and feed. Perfect for various waterfowl, gulls and terns, During migration (especially if water level is lower), VN Rozkoš makes an amazing spot for watching waders. All types of sandpipers, plovers, curlews and also pharalopes. In addition, a lot of rare passerines get attracted too. The overall area is quite large with the main birding spot being the dyke in the middle (see the map below). Fine place is also from the dam and as well by the influx. Among the birds you can see in the area are Osprey, White-tailed Eagle, Western Marsh Harrier, Black Tern, Grey Plover, Little Stint, Velvet Scoter, Red-breasted Merganser and Slavonian Grebe. But many more, see the birdlist below.
Accessible by car with a short walk from a number of points. Click on a P in the map to get directions to that point. "Beware" of quite a high number of anglers during their season and some access restrictions applied by them. The reservoir is not suitable for a trip around, there is almost no trail available.
Good to check eBird or other birding sources before visit. The best time for visit is typically in the morning.
