A short walking trail adjacent to a colony of black-tailed prairie dogs and Burrowing Owl.
The colony of Burrowing Owl is charming and accessible - the birds can be viewed from the roadside. On the drive into the park watch for Long-billed Curlew, Lark Bunting, Clay-colored Sparrow and Vesper Sparrow, Chestnut-collared Longspur, and many more. There is a short walking trail with a spectacular view over the prairie landscape. Watch for Bison!
Top Dogtown Trail is stop 2 along the Ecotour road, which is the main access road to the West Block of Grasslands National Park. From Val Marie, travel east on Highway 18. Watch for signs to Grasslands National Park and turn right onto the access road into the park. There is parking at stop 2, and you can watch the owls from there or walk the short walking trail.
