Description

The Weitwörther Au is the core area of 350 hectare of the 1,140 hectare Natura 2000 site Salzachauen. The species-rich floodplain forest has been restored through renaturation. In the process, the Reitbach stream was lowered. Along a pleasant 4 km circular trail, panels provide information on flora and fauna and you pass a bird hide. Among the birds you can encounter are Common Kingfisher, Great Egret, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Common Cuckoo, Black-headed Gull, Marsh Tit, Common Teal, Blackcap, Reed Warbler and if you are lucky Golden Oriole. You have a good chance for bird photography because the birds can be very near. But you must get up early in the morning to get a Common Kingfisher or other specific birds.
