Description

DOKW (Donaukraftwerk) Asten-Abwinden is a hydroelectric power plant on the Danube in Upper Austria. The proximity of an old river arm and a reservoir results in a rich spectrum of different bird species. Birds that regularly can be found here include Yellow-legged Gull, Caspian Gull, White Wagtail, Great Cormorant, Grey Heron, Common Pochard, Tufted Duck, Northern Shoveler and Greylag Goose.

Access

DOKW Asten-Abwinden is located 15 km southeast of the city of Linz, downstream on the Danube. There is a large parking lot directly at the power plant (on the south side of the Danube). Press P on the map for directions. From the parking you can explore the area on foot. The circular walking route shown on the map is about 5 km. The route can also be extended to include the adjacent Lake Ausee.
