Sandy point on Westernport Bay near the small town of Jam Jerrup. Roosting area at high tide
Stock Yard Point is a great spot to see a variety of seabirds , waders and birds in the surrounding bush/scrub. Worth a visit at anytime. High tide for resting birds, low tide to view birds on the exposed mudflats. Pied Oystercatcher, Silver Gull, Pacific Gull, Greater Crested Tern and Pied Cormorant are some birds commonly seen resting here at tide. Far Eastern Curlew, Whimbrel, Red-necked Stint and Red-capped Plover can also be seen.
Stock Yard Point is located 90 km southeast of Melbourne, close to the small town of Jam Jerrup. Parking area for vehicles at the end of Foreshore Road followed by a resonably easy walk of about 1.5 Kilometers , either along formed track or along beach. Click on the P in the map for directions or coordinates. Many birds can be seen along the walk to the Point: Brown Thornbill, Grey Butcherbird, Grey Currawong and Superb Fairywren to name a few.
