Description

The River Exe runs through a low-lying valley and can be very susceptible to major flooding of surrounding grazing meadows especially during WINTER months. The main Paddington to Penzance rail line runs through it's center, sometimes this flooding can cause disruption of this main line, because of this during 2021 Network Rail are working on safeguarding this line by removing some wiers and other work to prevent major flooding, because of this the area may not always hold the same amount of birds that it once did.

The area was known for good numbers of Canard siffleur, Sarcelle d'hiver, Canard pilet, Harle bièvre, and Garrot à oeil d'or, with the occasional more unusual geese species. At the momentVanneau huppé, Chevalier guignette, Bécassine des marais, Chevalier culblanc, Chevalier aboyeur and Chevalier sylvain are still regularly seen, but on completion of the flood relief works, this might change.
