Plymbridge Woods and Valley is situated to the North East of the City of Plymouth and is one of the most densely wooded areas close to the city.
At it's southern end it is wooded with mostly broadleaf trees that follow a cyclepath/footpath, adjacent there is also conifer plantations to the east that rise up to moorland. The main path is built on an old railway that gradually rises up passing viaducts and a tunnel that brings you to moorland further north, whilst at first it looks like only common species are present, there are some more unusual birds to be found. As well as wooded areas, eventually further north it opens up to grassland, also the River Plym runs through the valley. There are numerous paths throughout the valley that gives the watcher a choice to go off map and do their own circuit.
Leave the A38 at Marsh Mills Flyover/Roundabout and take exit marked Plympton, at next traffic lights turn left marked Coypool Park and Ride, the large car park is just down this road on the left, the main valley path starts just north of this beside the Plym Valley Railway. The route that is shown on the map is about 10 km (one way).
During the summer this area gets busy with cyclists and dog walkers, but has some stunning views especially from viaducts.
Hot and cold drinks and food options available from Plymouth Bicycle Hire cabin in the large free car park.
