Description

Dishley Pool (more of a lake) is hidden away behind an industrial estate in Loughborough, a number of open playing fields are on the pools Western side, a number of sports take place on Saturdays and Sundays, a visit on a weekday early morning is probably best. Check the sports fields for Huîtrier pie and Vanneau huppé often mixed in with the more numerous Mouette rieuse. In Winter these fields often have Grive mauvis, Grive litorne and the odd Grive draine.

Dishley Pool is a fishing lake (Western side only), in Autumn/Winter check through the ducks carefully. A Fuligule à bec cerclé has been found here in recent years. More usual are Canard colvert, Fuligule morillon, Canard souchet, Sarcelle d'hiver, Canard siffleur, Canard chipeau and occasionally Garrot à oeil d'or. The area attracts Faucon hobereau, Fauvette à tête noire and Pouillot fitis during the Summer. Continue to walk further North to check along the River Soar and Grand Union Canal, Martin-pêcheur d'Europe are regular here. Be sure to check nearby electricity pylons, Faucon pèlerin sometimes rest here.

In recent years Hibou moyen-duc and Pouillot véloce sibérien have been seen.

Accès

The long distance A6 road runs immediately South of the site. Press P on map for directions. The long layby South of the A6 is a bit further to walk, but BEWARE when crossing the sometimes very busy A6 road, the small Derby Road Playing Fields car park, quickly fills up when sports are being played especially at weekends. NOTE this small car park is locked overnight.
