A wooded, riverside walk from urban Sheffield to the Peak District with industrial archaeology along the way.
Start at Shepherd's Wheel a working Cutler's grinding wheel powered by water. See breeding Пронурок біловолий and Плиска гірська in an urban setting, Повзик звичайний, Підкоришник звичайний, Дятел звичайний, Зелений дятел, Вівчарик-ковалик, Кропив’янка чорноголова, Сіра сова, plus wintering Дрізд білобровий, Чикотень, В’юрок and Крех великий. Very popular but with easy conditions underfoot as you gradually rise to the source of the Porter Brook on the edge of the Peak District with stunning views back down onto Sheffield. There's a popular cafe half way along the route at Forge Dam a former water wheel and mill pond.
The walk follows on from Endcliffe Park (head out of the city on A625, after Hunter's Bar roundabout turn right onto Rustlings Rd. Walk starts at the mini roundabout at the far end, on-street parking available, though popular. The route indicated on the map is about 4,5 km long one way.
