Relandscaped gravel pits and water meadows adjoining River Trent, east of Nottingham.
At Gunthorpe Gravel Pits 120+ species of bird have been seen, including Крех малий, Крех великий and Крех середній in winter, when Чайка чубата, Широконіска північна and teal can be numerous on flooded fields. Spring brings Очеретянка ставкова, Очеретянка лучна, Кобилочка-цвіркун to breed, and Крячок чорний, Кам’янка звичайна and Трав’янка лучна on migration. In summer, Підсоколик великий hunt swallows over the ponds.
Parking onsite, or adjacent to the pub, see map. Click on a P in the map to get directions to that point. The two circular walks shown are each about 3 km. The area is liable to flood in winter and may be slippery.
