14-hectare meadow with a marshy and scrubland habitat.
Empingham Marshy Meadows SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) lies at the east end of the pleasant, quintessential village of Empingham. The footpath opens up to a stunning view. It truly is a precious remnant of the Old English countryside the UK has lost so much of. The habitat that dominates the SSSI is lowland grassland, marsh and fen.
Empingham Marshy Meadows is located just northeast of the village of Empingham. Drive on the road from Oakham to Empingham and then turn left onto Gunnel Lane. Park down the road. Click on the P in the map for directions.
Empingham Marshy Meadows is also well-known for wildflowers such as adder's tongue fern.
