Brookmill's habitat is actively managed to provide the best conditions for species that are harder to spot elsewhere in London, including Рибалочка блакитний, Мала біла чапля, Кропив’янка чорноголова and Золотомушка жовточуба. The pond is very peaceful and particularly pretty in spring, with a very loud dawn chorus. Каргарка нільська, Мандаринка and Чапля сіра also feed there.

The park is right alongside Elverson Station (on London's DLR line) or just five minutes from Lewisham centre. There's a cycle path that cuts through the park that reaches London's Thames path at Greenwich in less than 15 minutes.
