The Dushanbe Botanical Garden is a nice patch of varied forest that attracts migrants and breeding birds.
Dushanbe Botanical Garden (formerly Боғи ботаникии Душанбе, now Боғи Ирам) is an oasis of trees in the city. There's enough unkept spaces to provide cover for forest species. In the summer, there are breeding Hume's Warbler, Indian Golden Oriole, and Indian Paradise-Flycatcher. The gardens are full of Brambling and Black-throated Thrush in the winter. Bar-tailed Treecreeper and Azure Tit are present in the winter as well. Tawny Owl is possible throughout the year, as is White-winged Woodpecker. Streaked Laughingthrush are plentiful and can be either skulking or very confiding.
The Botanical Garden is a great place to observe migrating species and vagrants. It's underbirded so there's better-than-average opportunity to add new species to the hotspot list.
There are two entrances to Dushanbe Botanical Garden: one on the north and one on the east. The eastern gate is the main gate. There's a small entrance fee, from 3 to 5 somoni, depending on the guard. If you arrive very early, there may be no one manning the gates to collect entry fees. If driving, there is a free (at the time of writing) at the parking lot next to the east gate.
Walking trails wind throughout the garden. Even if there are a lot of people around for an event, it's always possible to find quiet out-of-the-way spots to bird.
There's an enclosure for Indian Peafowl south of the east gate. The peacock keeper is friendly. Sometimes the peafowl are allowed to roam the garden freely. The garden is a popular place for weddings, especially on weekends. If you want to see Tajik wedding photo shoots, this is the place to come.
