Description

Sjön Östen is a shallow mud-sandlake with nutrient-rich water and abundant vegetation. Around most of the lake there is a belt with rushes and reeds that into land turns into high-grown grass areas. The streams Tidan runs through the lake and the stream Ösan starts in the lake.

Almost all species of geese found in Sweden visit Östen. The lake and surroundings are valuable as a resting place for many wading birds, both at autumn and spring. Here you can see, or hear, unusual breeding bird species such as Баранець великий, Погонич звичайний, Кобилочка-цвіркун, Деркач лучний and Соловейко західний. And a lot of ducks, waders and geese can be seen. The geese can also be seen grazing in adjacent fields. Among them a lot of Гуменник.

The best time for a visit to Östen is March-April, before and during the ice break- up. Bird life can be studied from, among other things, the bird towers and the bird platform. These can be reached from the parking lot at Logården.
