Norsholm Area

The Norsholm area is quite vast and contains many minor sites shortly described here. The areas mentioned are marked with a star on the map. Press on a star and you can see the name of the area.

Grensholmsbron: Winter site with open waters even during harsh winters. Thousands of Чернь чубата (at most 2000), hundreds of Крех малий (only numerous during november and december), Гоголь зеленоголовий (at most 700), Крижень (at most 600), and Крех великий (at most 600). Among more rarer wintering birds it is most known for wintering Беркут, and Рибалочка блакитний. Other not yearly winter visitors are Шишкар білокрилий, Смеречник тайговий during invasions, and Пірникоза мала, Нерозень, Чечітка гірська, Шилохвіст, Крех середній, and Чечітка біла during birdrich winters.

Norsholms coastal meadows: Reed free coastal meadows which are rich in waders during late spring and autumn. Although only if the water level is right (only during high water). Few arctic waders are found but Коловодник лісовий, Пісочник малий, Коловодник чорний, Брижач, Коловодник звичайний, Баранець звичайний, Слуква лісова, Коловодник болотяний and Коловодник великий. Коловодник звичайний, Чайка чубата, and Баранець звичайний breed. Чепура велика, Рибалочка блакитний, and Крех середній are common.

Åby strandängar: Reed coated coastal meadows which are flooded during spring floods. They are then usually filled with early waders and ducks. Бугай водяний can be heard singing. All common dabbling ducks are usually found except Чирянка велика. Свищ євразійський, Крижень, and Нерозень. On these coastal meadows Чепура велика is often found.

Braskens grav: is an oxbow lake of the river Motala ström which often floods making it perfect for waders and ducks. Чирянка мала is numerous, Коловодник чорний, and other common tringa-waders are often found along with Баранець малий. Чепура велика is often found here. Водяна курочка, and Лиска звичайна breed.

Åby gård: complex of 3 ponds, the large, the small and fiskaretorpet. It is these ponds and the field around them which Norsholm is most known for. It has a bird observation tower. During spring it holds large amounts of ducks and swans with Лебідь-шипун, Лебідь-кликун, Крижень, Свищ євразійський, Нерозень, Чирянка мала, Широконіска північна, Чернь чубата, Крех малий, and Крех великий being common and Чирянка велика and Шилохвіст, being rarer. Other common wetland birds are Лиска звичайна, Журавель сірий, Чапля сіра. Баклан великий often roost here. Rarer birds roosting are Пірникоза мала, Водяна курочка, Бугай водяний (nearby reed areas), and Чепура велика. There are small islands in the pond which hold a small tern and gull colony. Theese islands also hold small amounts of waders often; Кульон великий, Коловодник звичайний, Чайка чубата, Брижач and Коловодник болотяний. During early spring the area is great for roosting geese and swans with hundreds of Гуска білолоба, Гуска сіра, Гуменник, Казарка канадська, and Казарка білощока during good years. often along with smaller amounts of Лебідь чорнодзьобий (rare), Tundra Bean Goose, Гуменник короткодзьобий, and Казарка чорна (rare).

Around these ponds Сова вухата, Пірникоза мала, Водяна курочка, Лебідь-кликун, Пірникоза велика, Казарка канадська, Гуска сіра, Чирянка мала, Журавель сірий, Чайка чубата, Баранець звичайний, Лиска звичайна, Мартин звичайний, Мартин морський, Лебідь-шипун, Крячок річковий, Фазан, Чернь чубата, Крижень, Гоголь зеленоголовий, and southern Жовта плиска breed along with more common birds.

During autumn large amounts of ducks can rest (but less than during spring). The small islands grow during dry summers and can some years hold arctic waders like Побережник чорногрудий, Побережник червоногрудий, and Побережник білохвостий. Синьошийка, and Подорожник лапландський can sometimes be found on the surrounding fields.
