Inre Slätbaken

The birds start to arrive at Killingholmen in February when the ice starts to loose its grip on the coastal waters. Then ducks start to rest in the shallow parts of the bay; Чернь чубата (at most 100) and around 1000 Крех великий can be found. Also the rarer winter ducks like Чирянка мала, Попелюх звичайний, Крех малий, Чернь морська and Крех середній. A few hundred geese and around 100 Лебідь-кликун feed on the areas fields and coastal meadows around march. In March the other early spring birds also arrive; Жайворонок польовий, Припутень, Шпак звичайний and Чайка чубата. In spring you can find Сутора вусата, або синиця вусата in the reed beds.

Year round Яструб малий, Орлан-білохвіст and Канюк звичайний are the common predatory birds. But Беркут, Лунь польовий and Шуліка рудий pass by the area. Most common passerine birds arrive in March/April. Slätbaken is a stopping point for passerine birds, which makes it common to find uncommonly early Жайворонок лісовий and Дрізд-омелюх.

From late February and in March the owls in the area can be heard calling. Сіра сова Сичик-горобець євразійський and Пугач палеарктичний are sometimes heard. In March more geese start to arrive and not only the common Казарка канадська and Гуска сіра. Also Гуска білолоба (at most 67) and Казарка білощока (at most 100). Гуменник, Tundra Bean Goose and Гуменник короткодзьобий are sometimes found. Also Лебідь чорнодзьобий has been observed.

On the coastal meadows large amounts of passerine bird start to rest in the end of March and in April. Щеврик лучний, Плиска біла, Коноплянка are the most common. Among these Щеврик острівний is regularly seen. In the large grassy areas Сова болотяна can be found. On the coastal meadows Набережник палеарктичний, Коловодник лісовий, Коловодник звичайний, Свищ євразійський, Нерозень, Широконіска північна, Коловодник болотяний, Сивка звичайна, Баранець звичайний and Пірникоза велика. Most common dabbling ducks are found but only Чирянка мала is numerous (at most 70). At the Torpa damm Чирянка велика and Шилохвіст have been seen, along with smaller amounts of other ducks.

In april large amounts of thrushes move past the fields and coastal meadows. Hundreds of Дрізд співочий, Дрізд білобровий, Чикотень and Дрізд-омелюх are seen. In the end of May and April most birds disappear, except for the breeders.

In May the latest passerine birds, and night active birds arrive. On the fields Лунь лучний, Сапсан and Деркач лучний are found. Клуша sometimes rest on the coastal meadows in May. Чечевиця євразійська often sings here. On the meadows Казарка білощока, Гуска сіра, Казарка канадська, Нерозень, Коловодник звичайний, Чайка чубата, Пірникоза велика, Чернь чубата, Гоголь зеленоголовий and Лиска звичайна breed. In the area Дятел малий, Сорокопуд терновий, Чирянка мала and Лебідь-кликун breed. At Storåns river mouth you can observe Рибалочка блакитний.

During autumn Hov strandängar becomes better for birding. From July the area is a good site for wading birds such as Чайка чубата, Кульон великий, Пісочник великий, Пісочник малий, Набережник палеарктичний, Баранець звичайний, Сивка звичайна, Коловодник великий, Коловодник звичайний, Брижач, Коловодник болотяний and Коловодник лісовий. These are all common, while Побережник малий, Побережник чорногрудий, Кульон середній, Побережник білохвостий and Побережник червоногрудий are more rare.

Other wetland birds are often found. Among the rarer birds Рибалочка блакитний, Крячок каспійський, Синьошийка and Чепура велика can be noted. Large amounts of gulls, geese and terns can be found, especially Гуска сіра which some years have been found as numerous as 3000.

Large amounts of passerine birds are found in the meadow areas. The most numerous passerine birds are Щиглик звичайний (250 at most), Ластівка сільська (500 at most), Трав’янка лучна, Кам’янка звичайна, Шпак звичайний (600 at most). Later in autumn Пірникоза мала, Баранець малий, Чечітка гірська, Пірникоза червоношия, Крех малий and Чернь морська are sometimes found.
