This shallow nutrient-rich lake with surrounding wetlands and natural forest is a must if you are nearby.
Gammelstadsviken nature reserve is a great birding spot. The lake has large belts of reeds and surrounding wetlands and forest. In Gammelstadsviken about 80 bird species can be seen. Over the years, more than 200 bird species have been observed. Крех малий can be seen in the hundreds if you are lucky in the spring! Among the other birds you can see in the reserve are Лебідь-кликун, Широконіска північна, Гоголь зеленоголовий, Крех великий, Журавель сірий, Кульон великий, Мартин малий, Крячок каспійський, Крячок річковий, Крячок полярний, Дятел трипалий, Лунь очеретяний, Скопа and Орлан-білохвіст. But many more, see the birdlist below.
Gammelstadsviken nature reserve is located about 4 kilometers north of Luleå. A trail starts at a parking lot next to the old Haparandavägen. From the bus stop Vänortsvägen on Porsön, a new, accessible trail enters the reserve. From the north, the bird tower is reached by a path about four kilometres long starting at the open-air museum Hägnan in Gammelstad's church village. Another hiking trail starts south of the reserve at notviken's stop, next to the pedestrian and bicycle path. Click on a P in the map to get directions to that parking.
