Description
La Higuerilla is a great spot to look for birds of prey. In 2024 I found 3 different Гриф чорний nests in the oaks on the other side of the river, although some diligent scanning is required to find them. Also easily seen in spring and summer are Шуліка чорний, Змієїд блакитноногий and Орел-карлик малий.
Be sure to check the riverbanks for fishing Лелека чорний. On- and around the river Чапля сіра, Мала біла чапля and Баклан великий are present most of the time, as well as Чапля руда sometimes. Pay attention to the calls of Кеклик червононогий, which often can be found in the scrubland or even crossing the road.

Access
La Higuerilla is easily reached from Villareal de San Carlos. It is the third viewpoint (on the left side of the road) after passing the Torrejon-Tietar dam. You can park next to the viewpoint. Press P on the map for directions.
