Description
Vražji Kamen (Devil's Stone) near Velika Trnica village is a natural phenomenon with rock pillars formed by the Pčinja River rising from the river valley. These rock formations around the small church are one of the rare places in Serbia where Скеляр синій breeds. The road tunnel beneath hides Ластівка скельна, while Даурська ластівка, Ластівка міська, and Ластівка сільська are flying through the river valley. The scrubby and rocky slopes north of the church host Вівсянка гірська and Жайворонок лісовий among many other passerine species. Usual suspects like Пронурок біловолий, Плиска гірська, and Лелека чорний, are at the riverbanks.
The whole Pčinja River valley is part of the Aegean basin thus many southeastern and Mediterranean species are possible here, though more likely in the downstream parts of the valley than at this location. The area is protected as the Nature Monument Vražji Kamen - Prosečnik.
The area belongs to the Important Bird Area (IBA) Pčinja.
