Description

Ludaš Lake is a very shallow lake, averaging only 1 m of depth. It combines diverse habitats, aquatic, swamp, meadow, and steppe, thus many bird species can be found on and around the lake, and many of them are migratory. The lake was named from the Hungarian "ludas", meaning goose, as a colony of Гуска сіра breeds on the lake. Other characteristic species include Очеретянка тонкодзьоба, Сутора вусата, або синиця вусата, and Бугай водяний.

Because of a lot of reedbeds around the lake, the area is an ideal place for ringing camps, which are regularly organized at the lake's visitors center.

The lake is protected as 'Ludaš Lake Nature Reserve' and is part of the IBA 'Subotica lakes and sandy terrain'.
