Description

Penha Garcia is part of the region Tejo Internacional. An ideal place for birdwatching, enclosing beautiful landscapes and a great diversity of habitats, from the river valleys and well preserved Mediterranean scrubland and cliffs. In this mosaic of habitats a great diversity of species can be found. Over 210 species of vertebrates have been recorded at this region, of which 140 are birds.

Several of these species have a restricted distribution in Europe, being many of them confined to Iberia and some are threatened but are locally easy to observe. Birds you might see here are Могильник іспанський, Орел-карлик яструбиний, Орел-карлик малий, Змієїд блакитноногий, Black Vulture, Сип білоголовий and Стерв’ятник білий. Also , Скеляр синій, , Кам’янка іспанська, Кропив’янка прованська and Сорока іберійська.

Access

Park the car down by the lake (see the P on the map) and walk the 1,5 km trail up to the castle. Nice views, chance on many different birds soaring by.
