Description

Ōkārito Lagoon is a feeding site for many coastal birds such as Pied Stilt, Pipipi (Brown Creeper), Red Knot and of course the , or White Heron/ kōtuku. Also in the forests you can see the Okarito Brown Kiwi, Morepork, many of the endemic songbirds and very easily the New Zealand Fernbird.

Access

There is only one road leading to the village of Ōkārito. The lagoon is restricted area, but you can have some nice views from the road. In the forests you can find very nice walks leading as a loop from the village centre.
