Description
"Zandput Culemborg" is an old sand extraction area, consisting of a small lake and is surrounded by a poplar and willow forest. Adjacent to the forest, large pastures draw the landscape. The lake itself isn't a hotspot for waterbirds. Species like Пірникоза велика and Чернь чубата can be seen. The shoreline and its overhanging branches are a great spot for Рибалочка блакитний. The area provides also an important habitat for the Western Clubtail (dragonfly).
The forest is a great spot for observing Вивільга звичайна in Spring; a scarce species in the area. Several individuals tend to hang around during the breeding season. Other songbird species that can be heard and seen regularly are Мухоловка сіра, Гаїчка-пухляк, Повзик звичайний and Кропив’янка садова. Scarcer species that can be seen here are Дятел малий and Очеретянка середземноморська. The larger bushes adjacent to the forest and pastures are great for Берестянка звичайна and Очеретянка чагарникова.
The pastures provide a good foraging area for Лелека білий. They can also be seen resting on the street lights above the highway from here. Another good species in these pastures is Куріпка сіра.
