Summer and winter polder with (wet) grassland, reed and marsh.
Ryptsjerksterpolder has often large groups of geese in winter. In particular Казарка білощока and Гуска білолоба, sometimes as many as 10,000s. The meadows are managed extensively and are therefore very suitable for meadow birds. In particular Баранець звичайний, Грицик великий and Чайка чубата but also Жайворонок польовий and Жовта плиска. The Лунь очеретяний breeds in the reed beds on the south side. Little songbirds can be seen near the viewing platform in spring and summer.

On the road from Tytsjerk to Gytsjerk, after approx. 1 km on the west side is a picnic area with information panel and benches.
