Newly constructed side channel of 4.5 kilometers along the river Waal between Druten and Deest that attracts many birds.
The Afferdense and Deestse Waarden are a new nature reserve along the southern bank of the river Waal west of the city of Nijmegen. A co-flowing side channel of 4.5 kilometers has been constructed and parts of the site have been lowered. Here the river is allowed to take its own course and bring changes to the landscape due to high and low water. The river nature is already abundant and countless birds can be seen, such as Чоботар синьоногий, Пісочник малий, Галагаз євразійський, Скопа, Широконіска північна, Чепура велика, Сапсан, Рибалочка блакитний, Синьошийка, Дрізд гірський, Крех великий.

Net opgeleverde herinrichting van het Natura 2000-gebied de Afferdense en Deestse Waarden langs de zuidelijke Waaloever ten westen van Nijmegen. Er is een meestromende nevengeul van 4,5 kilometer aangelegd en delen van het terrein zijn verlaagd. Hier mag de rivier zijn gang gaan en veranderingen in het landschap brengen door hoog- en laagwater. De riviernatuur wordt al volop gevonden door talloze vogels zoals: Чоботар синьоногий, Пісочник малий, Галагаз євразійський, Скопа, Широконіска північна, Чепура велика, Сапсан, Рибалочка блакитний, Синьошийка, Дрізд гірський, Крех великий.
