Description
The forests of slopes in Gauja National Park with old deciduous trees attract less common species of woodpeckers (Дятел білоспинний, Дятел трипалий, Жовна чорна and Дятел середній). Relatively often spotted are the elsewhere rare Вівчарик зелений, Мухоловка мала and locally common Орябок лісовий. Сова довгохвоста has started nesting in the park, and the smallest owl of Latvia — Сичик-горобець євразійський — is also seen more often. Many Деркач лучний and some species of warblers, which are not common in Western Europe (Кобилочка річкова, Очеретянка садова), are found in the riverside meadows of Gauja.
