Livadi Marsh is a nice place for birding on the island of Kefalonia. More than 100 bird species have been seen in this semi-flooded marsh area near the sea.
Livadi Marsh is a flat area and a semi-flooded marsh. On one side it is bordered by the sea. A road to a quarry runs on one side along from the sea and on the other side the marsh is overlooked by a hillside. The small wetland is a paradise for wading birds such as Мала біла чапля, Чепура велика, Чапля жовта and Чирянка мала. Also Рибалочка блакитний can be seen. The surrounding reeded pools, scrubland and fir trees also attract tits, finches, Лунь очеретяний, Берестянка звичайна and Кропив’янка середземноморська. It’s also common to see Бджолоїдка звичайна, Мухоловка сіра, Очеретянка лучна, Серпокрилець білочеревий buzzards and eagles in this area.
Drive down to Lixouri on the mountain road from Argostoli, just as you reach sea-level there are two parking spots. The first alongside a concrete wall on a hairpin bend and a little further down, practically at the sea road. The best place to observe the marsh is from a path which runs from just by the concrete wall along a hillside, past fly-tipped household & building junk to a grove of fir trees overlooking the marsh.
