Polder located in an extensive marshland. It is characterized by grassland on moist to wet sites and thus habitat for numerous wading and meadow birds.
The Holter Hammrich polder is divided into two parts. The western, 143-hectare section "Leyßer Hammrich" was designed as a habitat for meadow birds. It is extensively managed as grassland except for a pond that already existed before the redesign. The eastern, 80-hectare section "Altes Tief" is not cultivated. Here, a diverse mosaic of shallow water zones, shrubs, reed beds and wet grassland was created. Among the breeding birds are
The polder can be explored on a 7 km long circular route, which partly runs on the dike. Click on the P in the map for directions to a parking.
