The Pichelswerder peninsula lies adjacent the Havel river where it flows out of the Pichelssee.
Especially in winter this part of the Havel can be a rewarding site in Berlin, as it doesn't freeze over quickly due to the current, attracting many waterfowl looking for the last remaining open water. Waterfowl that can be observed here include Крех великий, Пірникоза мала, Крех середній, Лебідь чорнодзьобий, Лебідь-кликун, Турпан, Синьга, Гоголь зеленоголовий, Рибалочка блакитний, Мартин морський, Бугай водяний, Чернь морська and Крех малий.
The interior of the island consists of a wooded nature reserve with mature oak and pine trees and home to various woodpeckers including Дятел середній. A visit can be combined with a walk around the Tiefwerder Wiesen on the other side of the Heerstrasse.
There are several parking areas that can be busy with people walking their dogs, but there are usually open parking spaces available. Click on a P in the map to get directions to that point.
