Description
The Nienwohlder Moor is a nature reserve in Schleswig-Holstein. The 398 hectare nature reserve lies northeast of Hamburg between the villages of Nienwohld, Nahe,Itzstedt and Sülfeld. It protects a drained and mostly gated high bog area, which is the largest and best preserved bog remnant in Schleswig-Holstein. It is now an open bog with numerous water-filled peat engravings surrounded by a bog forest in the area of former industrial use. The nature reserve is also an important habitat for birds. There are various waders such as Кульон великий and Баранець звичайний as well as ducks like Широконіска північна, Чирянка мала, Чирянка велика and Чернь чубата. Also many Щеврик лісовий, Щеврик лучний and Трав'янка чорноголова. Лунь очеретяний and Сірий (Великий) сорокопуд can be found too. The moorland area is good for Журавель сірий which are now breeding here again. In the wooded moorland areas you can find various woodpecker species and Сорокопуд терновий and many songbirds.
