Gedenkstätte Stresow is a little memorial of World War II located in the Wendland in midst of a lot of nature. Right next to the memorial is a small lake, where you can often see Крех малий, Крех великий and several species of duck in Winter.
A few hundred meters futher there is an observation tower with a nice view over the partially flooded meadows and small bodies of water. In winter they are getting used as a wintering and migration place for thousands of ducks and geese such as Шилохвіст, Гоголь зеленоголовий, Свищ євразійський, Нерозень, Чирянка мала, Чирянка велика, Широконіска північна, Попелюх звичайний, Чернь чубата, Галагаз євразійський, Казарка білощока, Гуска білолоба, Гуменник and Лебідь-кликун. If you are lucky than you can spot a Сірий (Великий) сорокопуд in the bushes.
During migration times many waders visit the area. You can observe Чайка чубата, Побережник чорногрудий, Пісочник великий, Пісочник малий, Кульон великий, Грицик великий, Набережник палеарктичний, Баранець звичайний, Коловодник болотяний, Коловодник лісовий, Коловодник чорний, Коловодник звичайний, Коловодник великий and sometimes Брижач. On the water bodies you can sometimes spot grebes such as Пірникоза сірощока or Пірникоза мала or see a Рибалочка блакитний.
For a better look there is a route on the dike through the meadows so you can see the whole area from different sides. In the summer there are many swallows and Журавель сірий , herons and Лелека білий. Чапля сіра and Чепура велика are not uncommon, with a bit of luck you even can see a pair of Лелека чорний.
From the power poles, the bushes and out of the reed you can hear the songs of Вівсянка очеретяна, Просянка, Вівсянка звичайна, Кропив’янка сіра, Очеретянка лучна, Очеретянка ставкова, Очеретянка велика, Трав’янка лучна, Трав'янка чорноголова, Жайворонок польовий and see for example Сорокопуд терновий or Жовта плиска.
Over the whole year you can spot many different birds of prey. From the observation tower you can see Лунь очеретяний flying over the reed beds, in the whole area Канюк звичайний, Шуліка рудий and Боривітер звичайний are not uncommon. On very good days you can even see a Сапсан or Осоїд євразійський. Also often seen are Шуліка чорний, Лунь польовий and Скопа and sometimes more down by the river Aland in the trees sit one or two Орлан-білохвіст.

Access
Feuchtwiesen Gedenkstätte Stresow is located east of the villages of Kapern and Gummern and north of the village of Aulosen. There are two roads to the memorial Stresow. One is a dirt road from Kapern, safer is the normal road from Aulosen. On the memorial is a parking space, where you can park your car. Press P on the map for directions to the parking. From there it is better to walk or to ride a bike. You can also easily connect the visit with a bike tour through the beautiful landscape of Wendland.
