Description
The Seudre estuary is home to a large portion of the population of the nanmetum subspecies of the Синьошийка, which is endemic to the French Atlantic coast. With a bit of luck it can be observed here (other good spots are the Pointe de la Coubre, Marais de Brouage and RNMO). Some breeding birds of the Moulin des Loges reserve are Жовта плиска, Очеретянка середземноморська, Ластівка сільська, Ходулoчник and more.
Nearby Косар білий and different heron species, such as Квак звичайний are breeding, as well as Крячок річковий and Шуліка чорноплечий. Besides from that you can observe Чирянка велика and several limicole species during migration, such as Брижач, Грицик великий (keep your eyes open for the islandica subspecies), Побережник малий etc. (see the list below). The open landscape also allows good observations of migrating passerines, like Трав’янка лучна, Мухоловка строката, Горихвістка звичайна or Кам’янка звичайна, as well as Крутиголовка звичайна. On the nearby fields you can observe Кеклик червононогий, Сивка звичайна (only during winter), Чайка чубата and Просянка. Note that in end of August the hunt for waders and ducks begins, which makes good observations harder.
In the summer 2025 a Побережник арктичний and a Коловодник ставковий were stationary on the side of the road for a while. I was also able to observe a Мала біла чапля x Western Reef Egret hybrid several times in the area.
