Description
Borreby Mose is a large area with bog and reedbeds. Around the bog are extensive meadows used for grazing. Despite attempts to drain and cultivate, today the site is protected under Natura 2000 and serves as a vital refuge for birds. The reedbeds host breeding Бугай водяний, Лунь очеретяний, Сутора вусата, або синиця вусата, Очеретянка лучна, Очеретянка ставкова and occasionally rarities like Кобилочка солов’їна and Очеретянка велика. The wet meadows, shallow pools and muddy edges attract many waders and meadow-birds like Грицик великий, Брижач, Чайка чубата, Коловодник звичайний, Кулик-сорока, Пісочник великий, and Чоботар синьоногий.
During migration thousands of geese roost in the area, joined by ducks like Шилохвіст, Широконіска північна, Чирянка мала and Чернь чубата. Winter brings Крех малий, Гоголь зеленоголовий, and Лунь польовий. A regular resident is Орлан-білохвіст. Less common birds that visit Borreby Mose include Крячок каспійський and Плавунець круглодзьобий. Every year rarities turn up in the area, especially during migration. For example Побережник арктичний and Лелека чорний have been observed.
