Description

The Blue-headed Quail Dove Sanctuary are made up by private gardens owned by Ernesto Reyes and Tania Piñeiro (E&T Birding Tours). Bird feeders, water features like natural water ponds and bird showers have been designed to attract birds. The specialty of the gardens is the Blue-headed Wood-Dove an endemic and endangered species that we have been studying and after years of big effords we finally see that the population around our gardens is growing and more individuals are coming to feed and drink water in our gardens.

Other specialties from Cuba are present in the gardens too. From Bee Hummingbird (the smallest bird in the World), Cuban Trogon (the National Bird of Cuba), and Cuban Tody (one of the most colorfull birds of the island) to many other endemics like Cuban Bullfinch, Yellow-headed Warbler, Cuban Green Woodpecker, Cuban Blackbird, Cuban Pygmy-Owl, including nocturnal birds like the Bare-legged Owl.

Other daily visitors include: West Indian Woodpecker, Western Spindalis, Red-legged Thrush, Yellow-faced Grassquit, Great Lizard-Cuckoo, Red-legged Honeycreeper, Tawny-shouldered Blackbird, White-crowned Pigeon, Cuban Amazon and a lot of migrants during the "winter" season (From September to April) including many North American Warblers like Black-and-white Warbler, American Redstart, Ovenbird, Yellow-throated Warbler and Yellow-throated Vireo.
