The only place on the South American mainland where you can see King Penguin.
Reserva Natural Pinguïno Rey is a private conservation initiative for the conservation and protection of the King Penguin. Tickets are strictly limited to not disturb the penguins. So it is advised to reserve your tickets well in advance. Worth a visit just to see the colony of King Penguin.
Reserva Natural Pinguïno Rey is located on the Chilean side of Tierra del Fuego in Bahía Inútil. The park is easily accessible by car via dirt road. Parking is free, but you have to reserve a ticket in advance (see the link to the website below). Entry to the park is wholly guided, and tours last just short of an hour. Tours run on the hour between 10 am and 5 pm, Tuesday to Sunday. The trail from the visitor centre down to the viewing shelter is an easy, flat walk which takes about five minutes. The shelter has been built about 50m away from where the penguins nest. After seeing the penguins in the viewing shelter, you move further along the trail to another area which may offer a closer view, depending on where they are located at the time you visit. There is a tall viewing platform which gives you a great vantage point.
