Description
St Hubert is a great forest that is often overlooked by birders. A good place to find typical forest birds. In addition this is just a great site to see mammals: roe deer, red deer and wild boar. For birds: expect the normal forest birds here, like tits ( Гаїчка-пухляк , Гаїчка болотяна and the more common species), woodpeckers ( Жовна чорна ), Повзик звичайний , Снігур звичайний , Костогриз. Підкоришник звичайний is more common then Підкоришник короткопалий here. In winter check for Сірий (Великий) сорокопуд in the peat areas. Try your luck for Лелека чорний in summer. And off course try for songbirds in spring. Крук звичайний occurs frequently. Only a few times I had Горіхівка крапчаста here.

Nederlands: Dit grote bosgebied bij Saint Hubert in de Ardennen wordt vaak over het hoofd wordt gezien door vogelaars. Een goede plek om typische bosvogels te spotten. Bovendien is dit gewoon een geweldige plek om zoogdieren te zien: reeën, edelherten en wilde zwijnen. Voor vogels: verwacht hier de normale bosvogels, zoals mezen (Гаїчка-пухляк, Гаїчка болотяна en de meer algemene soorten), spechten (Жовна чорна), Повзик звичайний, Снігур звичайний, Костогриз. Підкоришник звичайний komt hier vaker voor dan Підкоришник короткопалий. Controleer in de winter op Сірий (Великий) сорокопуд in de veengebieden. Beproef je geluk voor Лелека чорний in de zomer. En in het voorjaar natuurlijk zangvogels. Крук звичайний komt regelmatig voor. Slechts een paar keer had ik Горіхівка крапчаста hier.

Many walks are possible in the forests, and here I propose two options. Around Mochamps you have Great oppertunities with a lot of deer ( try your luck around dusk) and slow but reliable birding, with all the typical forest birds (great for Підкоришник звичайний). You can also walk between the small airport of St Hubert (parking available) and Laneuville-au-Bois (parking available). There are many trails in the forest, I have just proposed a few on the map. The peatlands around the airport and more downstream the valley are just great for Сірий (Великий) сорокопуд and Снігур звичайний. In the forests Гаїчка болотяна , Гаїчка-пухляк , Повзик звичайний are common.

Rond Mochamps heb je geweldige mogelijkheden met veel herten (beproef je geluk rond de schemering) en ook vogels kijken, met alle typische bosvogels (geweldig gebied voor Підкоришник звичайний). Je kunt ook lopen tussen de kleine luchthaven van St Hubert (parkeergelegenheid) en Laneuville-au-Bois (parkeergelegenheid). Er zijn veel paden in het bos, ik stel er een paar voor op de kaart. De veengebieden rond het vliegveld en meer stroomafwaarts in de vallei zijn geweldig voor Сірий (Великий) сорокопуд en Снігур звичайний. In de bossen komen Гаїчка болотяна, Гаїчка-пухляк, Повзик звичайний veel voor.

Combine this place with other forests in the neighbourhood. It might be easier to find birds in the nearby village of Laneuville-au-Bois, but you will lack the real forest species.
