Description
The Kleine Weikerlsee and the Große Weikerlsee are located in the Traun-Donau-Auen nature reserve, on the confluence of the rivers Donau and Traun. Along the banks of the lakes you will find birds typical of the region such as Лебідь-шипун, Пірникоза мала, Гуска сіра and Пірникоза велика. The area is especially good in winter for overwintering ducks such as Чернь червонодзьоба, Попелюх звичайний, Чернь чубата, Чернь білоока, Гоголь зеленоголовий and Крех великий, but also Баклан малий, Пастушок and Чепура велика can be observed.
Because the lakes are surrounded by forest you can also find many woodpeckers and other woodland birds. In the summer, when the area attracts many holidaymakers, far fewer birds can be seen.

Access
The Weikerlsee recreational area is open to the public. You can park your car nearby (near the Kaiser-Treff at Weikerlsee). Press P on the map for directions. The circular walking route indicated on the map is about 3,5 km.
