Important scrub area home to the Florida Scrub-Jay.
Lyonia Preserve is a 360-acre preserve that features a unique scrub habitat and is one of the best places to see Florida Scrub-Jay. They are almost guaranteed to be seen after a hike, providing good weather. Other birds of the scrub include Eastern Towhee, White-eyed Vireo, and Northern Bobwhite.
Lyonia Preserve is located in Deltona. Click on the P on the map for directions to a parking. From there, you can enter the trails. There are a couple different loops ranging from 0.5 to 4 miles long. Trails are unshaded and on sugar sand for most of it. The preserve is open daily from sunrise to sunset.
If the Lyonia Environmental Center is open, you may be able to ask for a map of the Florida Scrub-Jay territories.
