Description

Talybont Reservoir has two bird hides, car parking, and a nice cafe in the village. Shallow water, marshland and exposed mud at the top end attract dabbling ducks, waders especially Çulluk, Su çulluğu, Küçük su çulluğu, Gri balýkçýl, Küçük ak balýkçýl and Su kılavuzu in autumn and winter. The woods have Kara sinekkapan, Şahin, Alaca Baykuş, Sıvacı, Orman tırmaşıkkuşu and Çobanaldatan. In the surrounding streams look for Dağ kuyruksallayanı, Derekuşu and Taşkuşu. And on the moors may be Kervançulluğu, Altın yağmurcun, Kar Tavuğu ssp scotica, Kuzgun, Çayır incirkuşu and Kuyrukkakan . The nearby canal has Yalıçapkını.

Access

Between Brecon and Abergavenny. Take the B4558 and turn south in Talybont village. A regular bus service runs through the village, from which it's a 2 mile walk to the reservoir. The circular route up to Tor y Foel is 5 km, with 250 metres of ascent. Stout boots, a hiking pole, snacks, a drink and waterproof clothing are recommended.
