National nature reserve providing reedbeds, lakes, swamp, woodland, seawatch and beach fauna in the outstandingly scenic Gower peninsula.
Oxwich has a mosaic of different habitats including dune slacks and limestone cliffs. The relatively small area of the reserve encompasses a variety of different habitats which include a calcium-rich dune system with dune slacks and saltmarsh, freshwater lakes and marshes and adjacent wooded areas on limestone slopes. This variety supports a rich variety of wildlife. Orchids on the grassland, beachcomber beetles, dragonflies, butterflies and moths. Otters. Seals and dolphins offshore. There is a cafe, car park, boardwalk and a bird hide. It can be crowded on the beach in summer. Winter wildfowl and possible Balaban, Küçük ak balýkçýl, Su kılavuzu and Küçük su çulluğu. waders include Poyrazkuşu and Halkalı cılıbıt. Other birds you can encounter are Taşkuşu, Küçük batağan, Saz Kamışçını, Kamış Bülbülü, Kuzgun, Şahin, Kerkenez, Su çulluğu and Çulluk.
Take A4118 from Swansea. After ten miles, turn left at Nicholaston church. Fee for car parking. Click on the P in the map to get directions. Boat trips run from Oxwich to Worm's Head further west.
