From August to October, numerous thermal gliding birds can be observed passing through the skies around Gurten. The best time is late August and early September. Then large numbers of Arı Şahini are possible. With a bit of luck, Kara leylek will also pass by. Other regular species are: Şahin, Atmaca, Çakýr, Kerkenez, Delice doğan, Kızıl Çaylak, Kara çaylak, Balık kartalı, Çayır delicesi, Saz delicesi and Leylek. In later autumn large flocks of Tahtalı pass by. From time to time Ak Karınlı Ebabil can be observed on food flights.

Access
The Gurten hill is located directly south of Bern city center. The best way is to take the Gurtenbahn funicular that runs from the city to the Gurten. From there it is only a 10 minutes walk to the viewing and observation point.
