Uppland  >  Sweden

Most recent update 8 Nisan 2024

Description

The Styggkärret area is home to many of Swedens more rarer forest species that otherwise are found mostly further north, like fındık tavuğu, Ormanhorozu and üç parmaklı ağaçkakan.

The area is rocky, wet and has a dense forest so it is mainly accessible by the main forest road, some minor trails can be found just south of this location. Birdwatching is best done around sunrise.

Access

From Uppsala go west towards Enköping, take the exit to Vänge. Drive northwest through Vänge and over the train track, follow this road for about 8 km. On the right side there will be a minor lake/pond, when you have past this the road will turn a sharp right (and then left), but instead of going right there is a forest road to the left which is hidden behind a house and therefore easy to miss! Follow this road for another 8 km. Two parking spaces can be found along the road. From there it is best to walk alongside that same road in either direction.

It is worth standing still and look/listen around along this last forest road as many birds move around in this area too. It is also completely possible to do this trip by bike but remember it is a total of 25 km long.
