Easy to hike, beautiful terrain which houses among others Dag cılıbıtı, Altın yağmurcun and Mavigerdan.
Marsfjället Nature Reserve has a great diversity of birds and is a Natura 2000 site. The Marsfjället high mountain massif is dominated by the 1,587 meter high Marsfjällstoppen, which is the highest peak in southern Lapland. There's a birch and pine forest leading up to a tundra like terrain. In Marsfjället Nature Reserve you can hike in an unbroken wilderness area that stretches from high mountains to forest land. In the reserve there are several marked trails and forest trails that take you through the nature and up the mountain. The bird life is perhaps richest in the area's bogs. Here are species such as Turna, Sürmeli kervançulluğu and Döşüşkenkuş. In the moorland between mountains and coniferous forest, birds such as Sürmeli kumkuşu and Kara kızılbacak nest. Characteristic coniferous forest birds are büyük orman tavuğu and Sibirya baştankarası. Among the other birds you can encounter are Dag cılıbıtı, Altın yağmurcun and Mavigerdan.
Located 10-150 km from Vilhelmina, take road 1067 towards Stekenjokk, bay off just before Saxnäs towards Marsliden, from there there are hiking trails right into the heart of the nature reserve. So you can drive up to Marsliden by car and walk from there. Click on the P in the map to get directions to the parking. On the map you see the 12 km trail (one way) tot the summit, but you can also explore other trails, or just walk a part of this trail and turn back.
