Description
La Higuerilla is a great spot to look for birds of prey. In 2024 I found 3 different Kara akbaba nests in the oaks on the other side of the river, although some diligent scanning is required to find them. Also easily seen in spring and summer are Kara çaylak, Yılan Kartalı and Küçük kartal.
Be sure to check the riverbanks for fishing Kara leylek. On- and around the river Gri balýkçýl, Küçük ak balýkçýl and Karabatak are present most of the time, as well as Erguvani balýkçýl sometimes. Pay attention to the calls of Kızıl Keklik, which often can be found in the scrubland or even crossing the road.

Access
La Higuerilla is easily reached from Villareal de San Carlos. It is the third viewpoint (on the left side of the road) after passing the Torrejon-Tietar dam. You can park next to the viewpoint. Press P on the map for directions.
