Ponta do Garajau is about 5km east of Funchal. It's a small peninsula with a statue of Jesus that looks the same as the one in Rio de Janeiro.
Shortly before dark you can watch the shearwaters coming back from the open sea. The most common is the Atlantik boz yelkovani. With a little luck you can also spot the Atlantik Yelkovanı or even a Küçük Yelkovan. As soon as it gets dark, the Atlantik boz yelkovani come to the breeding rocks. At the very front at the top you have a relatively good chance of hearing the Madeira fırtına kırlangıcı in the evening when returning to its breeding site.
There is a parking lot right at the beginning of the peninsula. To the left of the statue, a narrow path goes down to the tip of the peninsula. From there one searches the sea for the pelages.
