De Duursche Waarden is a 120 hectare nature reserve of Staatsbosbeheer in the municipality of Olst-Wijhe near the hamlet of Fortmond.
The Duursche Waarden consist of channels, embankments and patches of forest in the floodplains of the river IJssel. The area is named after the nearby hamlet of Duur. River clay was extracted for centuries for the brick production that took place in a fairly large-scale manner. The area is characterized by fairytale paths and see-throughs.
The forest here is subject and adapted to the whims of the water. Hence it mainly consists of willow trees that are resistant to water. The observation tower offers a wide view. The birds can be viewed from the bird hide and from behind a viewing screen.
It is best to park at the Barloseweg. Another option is parking at the information center at Rijkstraatsweg 109 in Olst. It is also nice to cross the IJssel by bicycle with the ferry. Then you sail with the "Kozakkenveer" (ferry) right into the area. The route you see on the map is 5,2 km.
The area has limited access at high tide.
