Description

In the Meteliai Regional Park lie three big lakes - Dusia, Metelys and Obelija. The lakes are well known both, for their exceptional beauty and natural values, but for birds in particular. In nearby shallow water bodies very rare in Lithuania European pond turtles live. In spring and autumn numerous flocks of migrating waterfowl make their stop in the lakes. Late autumn is a special time to visit the lakes: in October-November in lakes Dusia and Metelys rare in inland waters sea ducks, loons like Kýzýlgerdanlý dalgýç and Karagerdanlý dalgýç and grebes are found. Waterfowl occurs abundantly which is hunted by Akkuyruklu kartal. Also a chance of seeing Aksırtlı ağaçkakan.

The ponds of the Simnas fishery farm are an attractive site for birdwatchers in the autumn migration period. In October-November having drained the ponds numerous flocks of waders land here. Flocks of thousands of Altın yağmurcun and Kızkuşu can be watched here, as well as other species of waders among them, also resting flocks of various gulls, and egrets are found.
