Birding at Brackenhurst Hotel grounds offers a unique opportunity to observe a diverse range of bird species in a beautiful natural setting at an altitude of 2,240 meters, 124 kilometers south of the equator. The retreat is surrounded by lush indigenous forests and gardens, making it an ideal location for finding many highland species and providing great opportunities for nature photography. The picturesque landscapes enhance the birding experience, with trails winding through forests, tea fields, and native vegetation.
The area is home to numerous bird species, including various types of sunbirds, swifts, raptors, and forest dwellers. Keep an eye out for unique resident and migratory birds - including warblers in the right season. By participating in birding activities, you contribute to the conservation efforts of the local ecosystem, which Brackenhurst actively supports.
Brackenhurst is located approximately one hour from Jomo Kenyatta Airport and is about 30 minutes outside of Nairobi. Best to get there using a taxi-cab. Accessabilty is walking only. Allow a fully day for the visit.
Due to the high altitude the temperatures are cooler than expected. Average high temps range from 18 to 25 degrees celsius with lows being around 10 to 14 degrees celsius.
Best if you stay a night. The food is also really good.
