Description

Riserva Naturale Macchiatonda is a site of national relevance for wintering Altın yağmurcun. It's a very good site to watch birds during spring and autumn migration (waders, ducks, herons). It's a nesting site of Boğmaklı toygar and other larks. It's the best place in northern Latium to see Ada Martısı and other seabirds. It's quite common to see raptors hunting here from Tolfa hills, e.g. Kızıl Çaylak, Kara çaylak and Yılan Kartalı. Note that the area is not always accessible and only from September to May, see the details below.

Access

Access to the area is possible just from September to May, on Thursday afternoon (2:30 pm) and on Saturday and Sunday morning (10:15 am) and afternoon (1:00 pm). The entrance is on the Aurelia road, km 49,900, through a yellow gate. Click on the P in the map for directions. It's possible to park cars inside, then the best way to visit the reserve is walking, but also biking. The ranger service can be contacted by phone +39 3452554653.
