Description
Mekszikópuszta is located in the Fertő-Hanság National Park in North-West Hungary at the south-eastern edge of Lake Neusiedl (HU: Fertő tó). Though relatively small, it comprises a variety of landscapes from lake shore and reed belts to the typical Hungarian puszta (Pannonian steppes). The birds you can encounter here include several species of geese and ducks e.g., Boz kaz, Çıkrıkçın, Kaşıkgaga, Macar ördeği, Pasbaş Patka; waders such as Döşüşkenkuş, Uzunbacak, Kılıçgaga, Yeşilbacak, Kızılbacak, Kara kızılbacak, Küçük halkalı cılıbıt, Kervançulluğu, Çamurçulluğu; reed warblers; herons; raptors including Saz delicesi, Akkuyruklu kartal, Delice doğan, Gök doðan; Arıkuşu, İbibik, Kızılsırtlı örümcekkuşu and Sarý kuyruksallayan are regularly seen in spring and summer and occasionally Çayır taşkuşu and Taşkuşu can be spotted. Tasçeviren, Büyük kumkuşu and Ak kumkuşu are among rarities that can be encountered in autumn.

Access
It takes about 2,5 hours by car from Budapest but it is merely a 40 min drive from the birdingplaces in neighbouring Neusiedler See-Seewinkel National Park in Austria.

The southern part of the route follows a path along a small channel and contains 2 small lookout platforms. Another platform is located next to the 8521 road. Unfortunately there is no footpath along the road but usually there is not much traffic so it is safe to walk or ride a bike.
